No one plans to be out of power. It just happens and sometimes at the most inconvenient time. With the new slim card concept, you can always keep several card units in your bag or buy them on the go when you need power. The company MyFC have said “It’s instant, smart, clean portable charging.”.
This salt water portable power bank uses salt and water to recharge smartphones is now on show at the Mobile World Congress tech show in Barcelona. The Jaq involves two parts: a rubberised sleeve with a Micro-USB cable socket to connect into your phone, and a cartridge containing salt and water that slips into the sleeve. Once the cartridge is slipped into the sleeve, it locks in place and the chemical reaction begins. This unique charger generates electricity with disposable cards containing salt and water. A fuel cell is a device that mixes salt and water to release hydrogen and generate electricity. The only by-products are heat and water vapour. While chemical reactions and hydrogen sound a bit dangerous, MyFC promises that not only is the chemical reaction completely safe, it is also environmentally friendly. Unlike other portable chargers that you can use more than once, the plastic card has to be disposed of, or even better thrown in the plastic recycling (which is much more environmentally friendly). It will charge a phone in the same time as a normal power outlet. So, most phones will get something like one and a half full charges from each cartridge. The Jaq is compatible with all phones and tablets, including iOS, and will be available in white, black and purple. Although there's no release date as of yet, MyFC has put the Jaq up for pre-order, where you can also sign up to having Power Cards sent to you on a subscription basis. Next up is the price. Although it's yet to be confirmed, a MyFC spokeswoman has said the pouch unit should cost around £65 and a cartridge roughly £1.50. However, the idea is that in the future you could by a pack of 9 for £6.50. MyFC have also promised that their power bank is travel certified; so it is safe to use on aeroplanes because it is designed to comply with international air safety regulations. The Power card weighs 40g and the Jaq weighs 180g. So, what do you think of the world’s smallest pocket size fuel cell charger? You can pre-order yours now at www.myfac.com |
